It is an uplifting magazine that inspires people to be creative, communicate and explore new things. The magazine is full of stories that capture the feeling of being free, recipes to help warm your heart  and even an array of crafty things to make. Paired with beautiful illustration, photography and words Oh Comely is a very original magazine indeed. Oh Comely is published six times a year, available in over a thousand store across the UK as well as internationally. Paired with an online blog Oh Comely is very original and unique concept which stands out from others in the same category.

Layout

Oh comely uses a handwritten style font for their title which reflects the home made element of this magazine. This unique style helps the magazine stand out from the other more recognisable magazines on the market for all the right reasons. the front cover features a well composed, free spirited looking image often focussing on one model. This is often central on the page with a white border positioned equally around the edge. This makes the magazine look a lot more personal and organic which could encourage people to buy the magazine.

Imagery

The colour palette throughout the magazine is always well established. A mixture of subtle hues are used within the text and often compliments the imagery used on the page. A predominately image focussed magazine, Oh Comely offers a unique twist to the magazine market with the use of illustrations and recognisable imagery.

Content 

The articles have a focus on real life, with real people featuring in the magazine rather than celebrities. This gives the magazine a more personal and relate-able touch compared to the more high profile magazines such as Vogue and Elle. There is a focus on fashion but primarily on vintage rather than upcoming trends however it is still inspiring to read and is a refreshing change to see.

Advertisement

Advertisement throughout the magazine is very sparse, which personally I like. The magazine focusses on the articles rather than swamping the reader with ad after ad. This makes it a lot easier to read and a lot more minimal.

Overall, I like the layout of the Oh Comely magazine. I find it refreshing to see a magazine which offers something different to the fashion consumer compared to the traditional Vogue and Elle. It helps inspire and is unique compared to others in the market. Good composition, concise text and well thought out photography all add up to a visually effective magazine which is enjoyable to read.
